Many "natural" or mineral sunscreens use zinc oxide, but leave a heavy white residue (white cast) that makes them impractical for daily or all-over family use. Wotnot has spent years refining a clear zinc formula, so you get the broad-spectrum, non-nano zinc oxide protection you want, without the thick white cast common in other natural sunscreens. We were early leaders in this space in Australia and continue to lead the natural clear zinc category.
We publish full ingredient transparency on every product so you can see exactly what's in the bottle and why. Our formulas are free from PEGs, parabens, sulphates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes and EDTA, and are gluten and GMO free. Where other brands may use the word "natural" loosely as a marketing term while still including synthetic fillers or fragrance, we formulate to be free of these by default, not as an exception.
Both, depending on the product. Many of our organic oils and select formulas are certified by the Australian Certified Organic (ACO) and COSMOS Organic standards — independent, third-party certifications, not just a label we've applied ourselves. Where a full organic certification isn't yet possible for a formula, we still hold it to the same natural, non-toxic ingredient standard.
Yes. Our goal has always been to match — or beat — the performance of conventional products while removing the toxins. That's a key difference between Wotnot and some other natural brands: we don't ask you to trade off efficacy for a clean formula.

Chemical sunscreens absorb UV rays and convert them to heat, using ingredients like oxybenzone and octinoxate. Mineral (also called "physical") sunscreens like Wotnot use zinc oxide, which sits on top of the skin and reflects and scatters UV rays instead. Because mineral sunscreen works on the surface, it starts protecting the moment it's applied — there's no 15–30 minute wait like some chemical formulas require.
Both can offer effective protection, but mineral sunscreen has two clear advantages for families: it's generally better tolerated by sensitive, reactive or eczema-prone skin, and it avoids the systemic absorption debate altogether, since zinc oxide isn't absorbed into the bloodstream the way some chemical filters have been shown to be. Yes. Zinc oxide is one of the only single ingredients that gives full broad-spectrum coverage — both UVB rays (which cause sunburn) and the full range of UVA rays (which drive skin ageing and contribute to skin cancer risk), including the longer UVA1 wavelengths that some other filters don't fully cover.
Yes to both. General medical guidance is to keep babies under 6 months out of direct sun and rely on shade, clothing and hats rather than sunscreen, since their skin is more sensitive and they have a larger surface-area-to-body-weight ratio. From 3 months on, a mineral sunscreen like Wotnot's baby formula — free from synthetic fragrance, dyes and nasties — is considered a suitable option when sun exposure can't be fully avoided. All ingredients are edible, which means if your baby accidentally licks, you don't need to worry about it.
